The château de Vincennes and the riverside guinguettes of the Marne
East of Paris, the Val-de-Marne has a particular soul: water and dancing. The Marne loops through it, and the riverside guinguettes have been throwing parties since the nineteenth century.
Vincennes and the river
The château de Vincennes and its keep anchor the northern end of the département; the bois de Vincennes next to it is the largest park in Paris. Further east the Marne loops past Saint-Maur, Nogent and Joinville, where the guinguettes still open on summer weekends.
Venues with a floor to dance on
Riverside pavilions, orangeries at Nogent, and reception rooms that were built for dancing rather than for dining. If your wedding is more party than protocol, the 94 is the département to look at.
How I photograph it
Documentary, and mostly after dark. A guinguette wedding gives you three hours of dancing that no posed session can compete with, and that is where I spend my film.
