        Paris 7th arrondissement

The Invalides, the Eiffel Tower and the private mansions of the Left Bank

The 7th is the quietest of the central arrondissements and the one with the most private gardens behind closed doors. It is where couples go when they want Paris without the crowd.

        The character of the 7th

Ministries, embassies and hôtels particuliers occupy most of the streets between the Invalides and the Seine. The result is a district that stays calm on a Saturday afternoon, with wide pavements and a gold dome that catches the last light of the day.

The Champ-de-Mars is the exception — it is busy from mid-morning. If the Eiffel Tower matters to you, plan for sunrise.

Where weddings happen in the 7th

The Maison de l’Amérique Latine on the boulevard Saint-Germain, with one of the largest private gardens in central Paris. The Musée Rodin gardens. Several hôtels particuliers that open only for private events. And the mairie du 7e, one of the grander ceremonial halls in the city.

        How I photograph here

I follow the day rather than stage it, and I look for the light instead of adding it. In the 7th that usually means working the garden during the cocktail hour and letting the interiors carry the evening.

Coverage runs eight to fourteen hours and starts at €2,900.

        Frequently asked questions

Do you cover the whole 7th arrondissement?

Yes, from the Invalides to the Champ-de-Mars and from Orsay to the École Militaire, including the mairie du 7e.

Is a session at the foot of the Eiffel Tower possible on the day?

Yes, but early. From ten in the morning the Champ-de-Mars and the Trocadéro are busy enough to change the character of the images.

Do the private mansions allow outside photographers?

Almost always. They ask for the photographer’s details in advance and expect equipment to stay out of circulation areas.
